Who we are
Recreation for Development and Peace Uganda (RDP Uganda) is a Youth-focused Non-Governmental Organization committed to the holistic empowerment and development of young people living in poverty. For over two decades, our mission has been to elevate youth voices and ensure they have a significant influence in decision-making processes at all levels in Uganda.
We collaborate with state and non-state actors, the private sector, and community groups to fight for social justice and youth rights. Our work is guided by core values of equity, accountability, integrity, action learning, and a strong belief in the potential of young people.
Our Priority Focus Areas
We champion youth participation in governance and decision-making. Through our Youth Leadership Academy and Activista network, we nurture future leaders and promote civic consciousness.
We create sustainable economic opportunities for youth, advocating for policies that support employment and entrepreneurship. Our programs enhance youth skills, link them to markets, and integrate them into production activities.
We empower youth to benefit from Uganda’s extractive industries, promoting transparency, accountability, and environmental sustainability. Our initiatives build capacity and create opportunities for youth in this sector.
We strengthen civic competence and citizen agency, ensuring youth and communities can demand their rights and hold duty bearers accountable. Our programs focus on fighting corruption and promoting social justice.
We are committed to strong institutional development, ensuring our internal and external operations are effective and accountable. We aim to enhance our systems, structures, and stakeholder relationships to better serve our mission.
Our work focuses on educating communities about their rights and responsibilities, fostering a sense of agency, and encouraging active participation in governance and development processes. We organize community meetings, workshops, and trainings that equip citizens with the tools they need to advocate for their rights, hold leaders accountable, and contribute to the development of their communities.
RDP Uganda’s grassroots approach ensures that no voice is left unheard, and that all members of the community are empowered to take an active role in shaping their future. By strengthening civic consciousness at the grassroots level, we pave the way for a more inclusive, democratic, and just society.
